Contests: Imagine Tomorrow
|

Win thousands of dollars in prize money. Help students bring their ideas to life.
More than $100,000 in cash will be awarded to high school students and their schools in Imagine Tomorrow, Washington's annual energy competition.
How would you power your future? Have your students team up and present their ideas to address the world's energy problems. It doesn't matter if a student's strongest subject is science, social studies, business, engineering, or art and design—their viewpoint matters in Imagine Tomorrow.
Last year's contestants and advisors called Imagine Tomorrow "a life-changing experience," and "a launching pad." The Grand Prize winners took home a total of $20,000, including $5,000 for their school, thanks to Imagine Tomorrow sponsors.
This May 29-31, join competing high school teams from throughout Washington. There's no registration fee, just a chance to win thousands of dollars for your students and your school. Visit imagine.wsu.edu and power up your ideas to win.
Sincerely,
M. Grant Norton Chair, Imagine Tomorrow Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Programs College of Engineering and Architecture Washington State University

How would you Power Your Future? Students' answers to that question could win them and your school thousands of dollars in rewards in a competition called Imagine Tomorrow. Exclusively for high school students, the second annual energy competition will take place May 29-31, 2009 in Pullman. This competition will demonstrate to our future leaders the importance of civic engagement, while underscoring the intrinsic power of their own ideas and actions. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, last year over $100,000 in cash and prizes were awarded to Imagine Tomorrow competitors and their schools. Under the advisement of a school mentor, student teams will present their best ideas to address the world's growing energy problems. Whether their strongest subjects are science, social studies, business, engineering, or the arts, there is a challenge category for them. Students may choose to tackle the challenges from one aspect, or bring together a range of ideas to offer their solution in a multi-disciplinary format. The range of solutions is limited only by their imaginations. Student teams and their advisor will travel to the Washington State University campus in Pullman where they'll be fully hosted and given the opportunity to tour research labs. They will present their project before a judges that include top University faculty, as well as business and opinion leaders from throughout the state. Take the next step. Contests: Young Naturalist Awards
|
|
Deadline: March 1, 2010
Presented by the American Museum of Natural History and sponsored by Alcoa Foundation, the Young Naturalist Awards—an inquiry-based research competition--invites students in grades 7-12 to conduct research in the natural world. Students investigate questions they have in the areas of ecology, biology, Earth science and astronomy and present their findings in an essay. Winners (2 from each grade) receive cash awards, from $500 to $2,500, and an all-expense paid trip to New York City to attend the awards ceremony at the Museum. There they take a behind-the-scenes tour and meet with Museum scientists. The winning essays are published on the Museum’s website and excerpted in Natural History magazine. 36 finalists receive a $50 award. All participants receive a certificate and a letter from the judges who read their essays. The letters highlight the strong points of the investigation and suggest ways they could be improved. The contest is open to students in the U.S. and Canada. For more information visit the website at http://www.amnh.org/yna or email the Young Naturalist Awards Administrator at yna@amnh.org
